Save Energy at Home
To save energy, we can start right at our home.
1. Change to Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs. Turn the lights off when they are not in use.
2. Use Energy Star labeled appliances. They use 10-50%Â less energy compared to conventional counterparts.
3. Unplug electronic devices when they are not in use. They consume electricity even when turned off.
4. Save water, especially hot water. Take short showers. Repair any water leakage.
5. Set your thermostat at 68-70 F during the day and 55-60 F at night to reduce heating cost and set it at 75-78 F in summer to use less AC.
6. Use your windows and blinds wisely to help heat up or cool down the house. Use ceiling fans to cool.
7. Use a clothesline to dry your laundry instead of a dryer.
8. Seal any cracks or gaps around doors, windows, etc.
9. Install double or triple pane storm windows to reduce energy loss through glasses.
10. Add more insulation in the house, especially the attic, floors, ceilings and walls.
11. Use trees and shrubs to shade the house.
