Step 147: Wash Your Clothes in Cold Water

There are these washing machine today, offering ‘better’ method of washing by using warm water for stains. However, that is not really that ‘better’ in ecological sense. Wash clothes in cold water instead of using warm or hot water. “Hot water heating accounts for about 90 percent of the energy your machine uses to wash clothes – only 10 percent goes to electricity used by the washer motor,” according to Energy Star.

If you really really need to get the stain off of your clothes using hot water, then try to wash it manually, not by a washing machine. It’s not a hard chore to do, if your stain doesn’t ruin all over your wedding gown, though :P
