Step 62: Solar-Powered Cell Phone by Samsung!

Samsung E1107 Solar Cell Powered Cell Phone
Samsung E1107 Solar Cell Powered Cell Phone

You’ve seen Green Roof, you’ve seen Electric Drive Transportation, you’ve seen solar panels, and you’ve seen wind energy already.

However 1000 Green Steps was wondering if you’ve heard about SOLAR-POWERED CELL PHONE? This is the latest innovation released by Samsung Mobile starting from June 2009 at India, Europe, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and Latin America. This dual band phone has its own solar panel at the back just like at the picture.

It has many usual features such as FM Radio, MP3 Player and Games. What makes it special is that this Samsung Crest E1107 Solar-Powered Cellphone contains some unusual features such as a powerful torch light, mobile tracker (sends out an SOS in an emergency, and notifies you when the SIM card is changed), and a fake call feature so you can quickly get away from people you don’t like.

This phone is available in your local gadget stores starting from $59!

Step 80: 3G Steps to a Green Birthday Party

Green Birthday Party
Green Birthday Party

Gifts

1000 Green Steps think that it’s nice to apply gift exchange in a birthday party. That is even better if every child brings a ‘green’ friend of them (plants, soil, or even animals!) and in the end they will go home with their own new ‘green’ friend.

Garnish

For the party supplies, try IKEA dinnerwares which are recycled plastics. If your child demands characters decorations such as Spiderman or Princesses, try drawing (or tracing) favourite characters or items on kraft paper to make a tablecloth. Even better, let the kids do it at the party. As for balloons, it might be easiest to go cold turkey. That may sound outrageous, but there are plenty of reasons. Fancy mylar balloons are not biodegradable. Even normal latex balloons, which do eventually break down, can cause problems.

Goodies

While kids are thrilled to rip open these sacks of treasure, the pleasure is usually short-lived. There is a reason that these items were inexpensive – they are poorly made, mass-produced, and definitely not sustainable. Use a small cloth bag or a recycled cardboard instead, or if you are on a budget, you can go back to number 1 where goodies bags are no longer needed to be provided by the host.

Step 68: Just Like Our ‘Green’ Idol: Brad Pitt

Just Like Our Green Idol: Brad Pitt
Just Like Our Green Idol: Brad Pitt

After having Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, and Lisa Simpson now we are having Brad Pitt as our Green Idol. Brad was twice nominated as ‘The Hottest Man Alive’ by People magazine. However, like many people say it’s the inside that counts. He proved to the world that he also has been hot on the trail of the emerging green-building movement, narrating a sustainable design TV series, and supporting Ed Norton’s Solar Neighbors Program.

He also has been leading an eco cause called Global Green USA’s Holy Cross Project, which is made to push the sustainable redevelopment of New Orleans after the Katrina.

That project will provide affordable-housing project, which will include five single-family homes, an 18-unit apartment building and a community centre. “What happened two years ago was a man-made disaster,” says Brad, “and this building offers a man-made solution.”

1000 Green Steps believe that with more people going green through their green steps, we will be able to create a better living place on Earth

Step 116: Do Green Steps With Your Old Phone!

Hey folks! 1000 Green Steps had found some new types of cell phone and 1000 Green Steps really understand if you want to change yours with a new one. With that coming, do you know what is going to happen with your old cell phone that doesn’t even sell? Well, there are green steps you can do with your old ancient cell phone:

Fist, you can reuse it and tell the (blog) world why you have done that on Kept. It’s a sweet little web site that urges people to “keep the stuff you’ve already got. To use it. To wear it. To celebrate it!”

OR, if you can’t even stand its existance ;) , you can go SMARTLY donate it to some good will company.

Lifeline for Africa collects used phones and sends them to Africa. Some phones will be refurbished, and donated directly to charitable groups in Africa. Others will be refurbished and sold to make money for the charities.

Woodland Trust will receive a donation for every phone it receives. The money will be used for protecting forests.

Step 71: Green Lighting for Green Steps

BLIGHT
BLIGHT

It is very annoying when black out happens; since that means your house have no electricity to light up your activities. However, if we manage to reduce electricity usage by not using any lamps, that will do a lot of favor for our Mother Earth. By this BLIGHT gadget, I am sure everyone sooner or later will be able to live without any additional lighting equipment.

Inventor’s words:

This solar blind creates a link between indoor and outdoor, taking the daylight during the day and giving it back at night. The advantage of the Venetian blind is to have a large surface exposed to sunlight in a small, cumbersome object. With the revolving blades we can follow the course of the sun in order to catch a maximum of energy. Moreover we can adjust the position of the lamp to obtain various lighting effects. The produced energy can be used to supply a computer or other devices, by means of an inverter.

This green innovation is invented by Vincent Gerkens.

Step 55: Ecotourism, a Green Way to Travel

Ecotourism
Ecotourism

Have you ever heard the term ‘ecotourism’? In case you’re not used to that term, the definition of ecotourism according to Wikipedia is travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas that strives to be low impact and (often) small scale.

1000 Green Steps will recommend this to you because it has some positive benefits compared to ordinary travel journey.

Firstly, this kind of travel will allow tourists to enjoy and discover our nature and those travel agencies were still able to gain profit for that, but it will not let our environment left unprotected.

Another benefit of ecotourism is that this kind of travel will educate tourists about nature in its own unique, unexplainable, and active way. That will awake city people that everything is not always the same as what it says in the picture.

1000 Green Steps say: Make them feel it, and they will never forget it.

Step 45: How To Use Water Efficiently

Do you know by pre-rinsing dishes you’ve wasted about 20 gallons of water with (based on research) without any significant benefit? So, starting from now, avoid pre-rinsing dishes and look for an eco-friendly washing machine such as Gota which steams up the dishes in the pre-wash cycle and recycles the cooled down residual H2O for the later-on cycles. You can also do the washing chores by yourself (this will definitely save more energy and money!).

Do a five-minute shower (10-25 gallons of water) instead of having a bath and a full bathtub (70 gallons of water). For a better try you can put an alarm clock inside your bathroom to make sure you don’t take it too long. You can also use eco-friendly shower heads as listed on Pristine Planet.

Do you turn off your faucet when you brush your teeth? Or do you keep it on when you do not really need it? Please only use faucet when you NEED it and don’t forget to turn it off. Look for any leakages on those faucets in your house and repair it soon. Don’t you know that leaky faucets can waste thousands of gallons of water each year? Use eco-friendly faucet such as Guru Tap.

Well, that I hope will be an excellent beginning for you to reduce your water spending (and money spending on water-bills).

Step 70: Green Steps to Norway Fjord

Norway Fjord
Norway Fjord

1000 Green Steps had written an article about considering ecotourism as a travel option. Now, we are back to submit some place options for you to visit! The first one is Norway Fjord, where the strict environmental regulations are as famous as a junk food restaurant. As an international leader of environmental policy, Norway Norway has taken care to protect its unique coastline by regulating the fishing, whaling, and sealing and petroleum industries. For more information, visit the Norwegian Embassy Web site.

Enjoy their snowcapped mountains, tumbling waterfalls and crystal-clear waters there!
