To start those green steps, you can simply start it by reducing heat in your house. And to do that, you can do it in 2 ways:

First turn off your heater for 30 minutes before you leave your house or go to sleep because 1000 Green Steps know it will stay warm for that range of time.

Or, simply strict to the rules to only heat the rooms you use. And voila! Reduced energy bill is on its way!

1. Think about the danger

The simplest way but might happen to be the hardest one if you didn’t get use to it. Try it and you’ll regret why you didn’t start it earlier.

The idea is to do some ‘sport’ while you may conserve the usage of fuel, or maybe electricity. That will eventually saves your money, making these green steps as good deeds for you, your savings and your earth.

First, you can use staircases instead of elevators or escalators when you are at home, or office or a department store. That saves a lot of electricity and besides, it makes you fitter by doing the exercise. Or, when you feel like changing TV channels do not use remotes, manually change it on the buttons present on it which makes you move from place frequently.

This eco friendly restaurant choice is from a vegetarian place, called Vitaorganic in North London.

Vitaorganic Café in the Aveda shop in Marylebone has to be one of the most detoxifying experiences there is. The food is billed as organic, live and ‘enzymatic’ (which must be good, right?). They use no refined foodstuffs, and they use modern and ancient holistic principles to ‘cook’ their food. So, no temperatures above 100°C, no microwaves, no aluminium, or deep frying, so that everything is in its pure and natural state as far as is possible. According to Vitaorganic, they focus on UN – ultimate nutrition, ie raw foods; and ON – optimum nutrition, which means food cooked at a low temperature to prevent as much vitamin loss as possible. Not only is there all of this planet-loving energy-saving, but it’s all gluten and wheat free. The dishes on offer run along the lines of orange and sweet potato dhal, or green vegetable and sprouted buckwheat soup, which are not only delicious but filling and inexpensive to boot. Unsurprisingly, the owner is a practising Buddhist.

No, 1000 Green Steps are not going to tell you about some BIG STEPS on the journey, but SMALL STEPS that everyone can do anytime and anywhere.

You can start your green steps simply by trying to avoid an air round-journey. Because do you know that one air round-trip between San Francisco and New York creates about the same amount of carbon emissions as the average American home’s electricity use for four and one-half months? That’s a pretty significant reduction. Take your green steps now, folks!
