Step 39: Three Easy Green Tips for Students

Use Recycled Paper

You have no idea on how much that will help Mother Earth. This will even cost you lower than those plain papers. 1000 Green Steps already use it at home for years and 1000 Green Steps don’t regret it. Don’t forget to take note on BOTH sides of the paper, too.

Use Bike or Walk instead of Car

If you don’t live in a developing country, I’m sure your school has a comfortable pedestrian access. However if you don’t have, try to save up your fuel money by riding a bike. This will save up your money a lot and most importantly your environment.

Don’t use a Plastic Bag!

Who doesn’t know I’m not a Plastic Bag tote bag? Everyone has got to use it. Remind yourself, your family, or even your neighbor to use a tote bag instead of plastic bags which are mostly only going to be used once. You can get in style AND save your earth at the same time.

Very easy. 1000 Green Steps have been doing that for years until now, and now it’s your turn to influence the people around you to give some love for Mother Earth.

Is Bamboo Green and Sustainable?

Bamboo products have gained more popularity in the recent years.  Bamboo can be made into flooring, window shades, furniture, kitchen gadgets, and even clothing.

People are interested in bamboo products not only because of their durability and unique beauty, but also because they are perceived as being environmentally-friendly.

Bamboo has superior renewability. it grows very fast and can be harvested in 5-7 years, much shorter than most hardwood trees.

Bamboo cultivation does not require pesticides. It also consumes carbon dioxide fast while growing.

However, the sustainability of bamboo products is questionable when other factors are considered.

First, most bamboo is grown in Asia. It takes significant amount of energy and natural resouces to ship it around the world.

Second, some chemicals added into products during manufacturing are toxic, such as formaldehyde.

Third, forests may be cleared to plant bamboo for profit.

Finally, it is not clear whether bamboo farmers and workers have socially-responsible working conditions.

So there is still some room for improvement before bamboo becomes a truly green and sustainable building material.

Step 38: ‘Green’ Check

How much paper do you or your company waste everyday? Do you know that every year America alone produces 1,052.63 tons of paper waste? Many people don’t seem to realize how much trouble they make for Mother Earth every passing day. But we do realize and we want you to act now together with us. 1000 Green Steps found something for you :)

Check Gallery is America’s leading earth-friendly check printer. This company produces personal bank checks, address labels, contact cards and checkbook covers featuring many beautiful, nature-inspired designs for far less than banks charge.

What else are you waiting for? Now put those guilt over the non-organic recycle bin (so that it can’t be recycled), and start saving your environment AND money :)
